Frequently Asked Questions
The minimum age to participate in adaptive lessons and activities is 4 years old. Participation in other programs offered by Topfield Equestrian Center is dependent upon the suitability of that activity for the individual. There is no upper age limit to our services.
Medical Clearance: For the safety of our clients, staff, volunteers, and horses, all riders engaged in our adaptive riding services must provide a basic medical clearance from their physician. In some cases medical clearance might also be necessary for those participating in ground work activities as well.
Weight Requirement: Under the advisement of our veterinarian, some members of our herd have rider weight limits. We always try to match riders with appropriate mounts and will check in with you about options as necessary.
The first step is to fill out and submit our Services Application. Once you've done that you can schedule your assessment/intake appointment (30 min/$60, book online or call us!) so that we can match you with the appropriate services and equine partner. After the assessment appointment is complete we can get you on the schedule for services!

For the health and safety of our clients, volunteers, and animals, Topfield reserves the right to substitute a ground lesson in lieu of riding:
-
if it is colder than 35 degrees in the arena
-
if the heat index (temperature plus humidity) is above 130
-
if there are local heat/air quality advisories in effect
-
if the temperature is acceptable, but the weather will not allow for mounted lessons (excessive wind, thunder, etc.)
Whenever possible, Topfield will contact clients ahead of time to notify them if their riding lesson will be substituted with a ground lesson.
