FREE GRIT Program for Veterans
Develop a deep relationship with a horse on the ground & get trained to assist in adaptive lessons.
Service Description
Grounding Resilience in Training (GRIT) is essentially using existing knowledge & tools to address common problems in different/specific populations. We have groups for Veterans, Kids/Teens, and people in Recovery from Substance Misuse. Grounding Resilience In Training draws on existing knowledge of both “grit psychology” & equine-assisted activities. The Topfield GRIT program consists of four, hour-long weekly sessions of working with a horse, a licensed Social Worker, & PATH certified professional, alongside a small group of peers, from the ground. Participants will learn the basics of horse care, grooming, and handling (on crossties, on lead rope, and in the arena). Additionally, participants will learn about horse behavior and safety while practicing non-verbal communication, internal/external emotional self-regulation and self-reflection, all while connecting with an animal in a safe, accessible, and consistent environment. GRIT for Veterans meets starting on the first Friday of every month at 6 pm, but other times are available. Give us a call anytime if you’d like to get on the list for one of our GRIT programs! **PLEASE ASK US ABOUT HOW YOU CAN ACCESS THIS PROGRAM FOR FREE**
